The One Mara Carbon Project is a landscape-scale initiative that supports sustainable rangeland
management, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and improved livelihoods for
local communities within the Greater Maasai Mara ecosystem. The project works closely with
conservancies, landowners, county governments, and other stakeholders to implement
regenerative grazing practices, strengthen ecosystem resilience, and generate high-integrity
carbon credits under internationally recognized carbon standards.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and
strengthening the project’s monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and learning (MERL) systems. The
officer will ensure high-quality data collection, management, analysis, reporting, and utilisation to
support evidence-based decision-making, adaptive project management, donor reporting, and
carbon project performance monitoring.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
Develop and implement the project’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL)
framework.
Develop annual M&E work plans, indicators, data-collection tools, and reporting templates.
Monitor progress against project targets, indicators and work plans.
Support baseline studies, periodic assessments, mid-term reviews and final evaluations.
Data management & Quality Assurance
Coordinate routine collection, verification, analysis and reporting of project performance data.
Maintain and regularly update project databases and information management systems.
Ensure data quality through regular verification, validation and quality assurance procedures.
Coordinate GIS, field monitoring and digital data collection activities where applicable.
Reporting & Performance Analysis
Produce monthly, quarterly, annual and donor reports.
Develop dashboards and visualizations for project performance reporting.
Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and applicable environmental and
social safeguards.
Project Monitoring & Technical Support
Support carbon project monitoring requirements, including environmental, social and
biodiversity indicators.
Work closely with technical teams to monitor restoration activities, grazing management
interventions and livelihood outcomes.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Management
Train project staff, conservancy personnel and community partners on data collection and
reporting procedures.
Document lessons learned, best practices and success stories.
Support knowledge management and organizational learning initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager.
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Key Experience
At least three (3) years of relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded
development or conservation projects.
Experience developing logical frameworks, results frameworks and performance indicators.
Experience working with large datasets and conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Experience in environmental conservation, climate change, natural resource management,
pastoral livelihoods or carbon projects is highly desirable.
Experience supporting donor reporting and project evaluations.
Experience using digital data collection platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Statistics, Economics, Development Studies,
Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Project Management, or a related field.
A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Professional training in Monitoring & Evaluation will be an added advantage.
Technical Competencies
Proficiency in:
Microsoft Excel (advanced)
Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
ODK, KoboToolbox or SurveyCTO
Power BI, Tableau or similar visualization software
SPSS, Stata or R
GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) will be an added advantage.
