The Role: Technical Officer – Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)

The Technical Officer will be a crucial member of the team, responsible for strengthening and managing MEL systems that support strategic and operational objectives across Wetlands International’s global and regional programs. This individual will work in close collaboration with technical teams, program managers, and external partners to design and implement tools that track progress, analyze data, and facilitate organizational learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive MEL frameworks aligned with the organization’s Theory of Change.
  • Designing data collection methodologies and monitoring tools tailored to diverse conservation projects.
  • Building capacity within regional and country offices to utilize MEL data effectively for adaptive management.
  • Creating dynamic dashboards and reporting mechanisms to provide actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Facilitating learning events, workshops, and knowledge-sharing forums to promote evidence-based practices.
  • Ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with donor reporting requirements.

This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong ability to synthesize complex information into clear, impactful messages. The Technical Officer will contribute to fostering a culture of learning and accountability within the organization.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in International Development, Environmental Management, Data Analytics, or a closely related discipline. Candidates should demonstrate a minimum of three years’ experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning within an international context, preferably in conservation, sustainability, or related sectors.

Essential skills and qualifications include:

  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, with proficiency in relevant software and tools.
  • Experience developing user-friendly dashboards and visualization platforms to enhance data accessibility.
  • Strong facilitation skills for capacity building and training across multicultural teams.
  • A solid understanding of adaptive management principles and their application in complex conservation programs.
  • Excellent communication skills for translating technical findings into strategic recommendations.

Experience working in East Africa or other regions with rich biodiversity and socio-economic challenges will be considered an advantage.
