About This Role
This is a full-time, fixed-term position located in Nairobi, Kenya. To be eligible, candidates must have current residence and work authorization in Kenya and be able to obtain a U.S. travel visa.
Hiring of this position is subject to award of funding.
ChildFund is conducting a preliminary search for an Officer II, M&E to lead monitoring and evaluation on a two-year, grant-funded project that promotes education technology (EdTech), child protection, online safety, youth workforce development, and child labor prevention. The Officer II, M&E will report to the Project Director and will support the design, implementation, and management of the project’s monitoring and evaluation systems. The Officer will work with technical teams, government stakeholders, and implementing partners to track progress towards project outcomes, oversee data quality, and meet all donor reporting requirements.
Required Experience And Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as monitoring and evaluation, statistics, economics, or information management, or equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
- 4-6 years of professional experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, data management, and/or program performance tracking.
- Experience supporting donor-funded projects.
- Experience supporting US government-funded projects.
Primary Responsibilities
Monitoring and Data Management
- Support implementation of the project’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Plan and performance monitoring framework.
- Maintain project databases and data management systems.
- Coordinate routine collection, verification, and entry of project performance data.
- Monitor progress against project indicators, milestones, and targets.
- Conduct regular data quality checks and support data validation activities.
- Ensure data are collected and stored according to approved protocols and safeguarding standards.
Reporting
- Compile and analyze project data for internal and donor reporting.
- Support preparation of quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and ad hoc reports.
- Produce data summaries, dashboards, charts, and presentations for project management and stakeholders.
- Track indicator performance and identify areas requiring additional attention or follow-up.
- Assist in documenting project achievements, lessons learned, and success stories.
Learning and Adaptive Management
- Support learning activities, reflection sessions, and performance review meetings.
- Assist project teams in using monitoring data to improve implementation.
- Help identify trends, implementation challenges, and emerging opportunities.
- Contribute to knowledge management efforts and documentation of best practices.
Surveys, Assessments, and Evaluations
- Assist with baseline, endline, and other project assessments.
- Support development of data collection tools and survey instruments.
- Coordinate field data collection activities with project staff and partners.
- Support external consultants and evaluators as needed.
- Help organize and maintain evaluation documentation and findings.
Partner and Staff Support
- Provide basic MEL training and ongoing support to project staff and partners.
- Promote consistent understanding of indicator definitions and reporting requirements.
- Support partners in meeting project data quality and reporting standards.
- Serve as a resource for staff on routine MEL processes and tools.
Compliance and Accountability
- Ensure MEL activities align with donor requirements and organizational standards.
- Maintain organized records and supporting documentation for audits and reviews.
- Follow established procedures for data quality, confidentiality, and safeguarding.
- Support preparation for donor monitoring visits and external evaluations.
Safeguarding
- Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with ChildFund’s Safeguarding Policy.
Others
- Travel occasionally to Washington, DC.

- Fluency in English.
- Strong knowledge of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning principles.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel.
- Proficiency with one or more M&E data collection tools (Kobo Toolbox, ODK, CommCare, etc.).
- Proficiency with Power BI is a plus.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Strong knowledge of donor reporting requirements and formats.
- Familiarity with data quality assurance processes and techniques.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
