The Organization

Kenya Tea Growers Association was established in 1931 by large-scale tea producers to promote the common interests of the plantation sub-sector members in the cultivation and manufacture of tea and to promote good industrial relations amongst its members. KTA also undertakes business advocacy and represents large-scale tea producers in Kenya.

The association is seeking to recruit a Legal Manager to be based at its headquarters in Kericho.

The Role:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the job holder is responsible for handling legal matters of the association including implementing relevant Executive Committee decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Committee on topical legal issues affecting or are likely to affect the Association.
  • Offer legal advice to Association members and sponsored institutions as may be required
  • Handle all legal matters of the Association
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer in spearheading the Association responses including amongst others: Legislative developments emanating from both national and county governments.
  • Prepare legal documents and contractual instruments including those for the Association sponsored
    Institutions when required to do so.
  • Monitor and analyse upcoming legislation and or regulations at National & County levels and advise the Association on the appropriate interventions.
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer in establishing, maintaining, and strengthening linkages for collaboration and networking amongst members and other stakeholders.
  • Support the IR & Advocacy Manager, in driving the Associations advocacy and lobbying agenda.
  • Assists the Chief Executive Officer in monitoring, guiding, reporting and coordinating association approach to a sustainable CR strategy. This may include sitting in Boards of institutions owned or managed by the Association.
  • Documenting and managing Association records, including minutes of meetings of Branch, Executive Committee, KTGA Principals and other engagements/meetings of interest to the Association as may be required.
  • Represent the Association in various fora as maybe directed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law with a post graduate Diploma from Kenya school of law.
  • Valid membership of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
  • With at least 5 years of experience in legal practice, 3 which in similar role within a corporate setup.
  • Good Knowledge of the devolved and national legislative processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Kenya Labour Laws, International Labour Standards, Industrial Relations Practice in Kenya, Industry Standards and Trends in the Labour Market.
  • Knowledge of the current trends in Tea and or related industries.
  • Good Communication skills
  • Good analytical skills with technical understanding of policy and legal analysis.
  • Experience in advocacy is added advantage.
