We are seeking a competent, proactive, and people-focused Human Resources Officer to join our team as an HR implant within a chemical manufacturing company.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating a broad range of HR functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding, payroll and statutory compliance, employee relations, performance management, training and development, employee welfare, disciplinary processes, and occupational health and safety.
This is an opportunity for an HR professional who can work independently, build strong relationships across departments, and provide practical HR solutions that support both employees and organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
- Shortlist candidates, conduct interviews, and coordinate with recruitment agencies.
- Maintain an up-to-date talent database.
- Identify and attract high-quality talent from the market.
Onboarding & HR Administration
- Manage employment documentation, including applications, biodata forms, offer letters, and contracts.
- Conduct reference checks and coordinate employee onboarding.
- Develop and maintain organisational structures and job descriptions.
- Ensure appropriate job placement and smooth integration of new employees.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Coordinate payroll processing and statutory compliance, including PAYE, NSSF and applicable statutory deductions.
- Ensure timely and accurate employee payments.
- Support employee benefits administration and awareness.
- Manage leave records and ensure proper handover during employee absences.
Training & Development
- Develop employee training programmes and an annual training calendar.
- Identify training and development needs.
- Coordinate on-the-job training, health and safety training, and other learning initiatives.
HR Policies & Compliance
- Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain compliance with employment legislation and organisational policies.
- Develop and maintain an employee handbook.
Employee Welfare
- Coordinate employee welfare initiatives, including medical matters, bereavement support, team-building activities, and CSR programmes.
- Coordinate required employee medical examinations before and after employment.
Performance Management
- Coordinate probationary and bi-annual performance assessments.
- Support the setting and monitoring of quarterly and annual objectives and KPIs.
- Coordinate Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) for underperforming employees.
Disciplinary & Grievance Management
- Handle disciplinary and grievance matters fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with employment legislation and company policy.
Employee Separation & Exit Management
- Coordinate employee separation, clearance, and exit processes.
- Conduct exit interviews and provide management with insights and recommendations arising from employee feedback.
Employee Relations & Counselling
- Advise management and department heads on employee relations matters.
- Provide appropriate guidance and counselling support to employees.
- Conduct quarterly employee satisfaction surveys and recommend areas for improvement.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Coordinate workplace health and safety programmes.
- Chair and/or coordinate Health & Safety Committee meetings.
- Support compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007 (OSHA) and Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA).
- Promote a safe, compliant, and employee-conscious workplace.
HR Reporting
- Prepare monthly HR reports covering workforce performance, recruitment, training, employee relations, leave, and other relevant HR metrics.
- Provide management with actionable HR insights and recommendations.
