The organization partners with grassroots groups, public institutions, and development stakeholders to design and implement context-specific programs. OSDA values youth leadership, community participation, and practical solutions that improve livelihoods and promote social inclusion.

Role Description

The Head of Programs is a full-time, on-site role based in Mandera, responsible for leading the design, implementation, and evaluation of OSDA’s programs. This role oversees program planning, workplans, and budgets, ensuring activities align with the organization’s strategy and community needs. The Head of Programs will manage and mentor program staff, coordinate field operations, and provide technical guidance to ensure quality and timely delivery of results. The position involves building and maintaining relationships with partners, donors, government agencies, and community stakeholders, as well as representing OSDA in forums and networks. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring program performance, preparing reports and proposals, supporting resource mobilization, and promoting learning, accountability, and continuous improvement across all projects.

Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated experience in program management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in the development or humanitarian sector.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and community mobilization, preferably in Northern Kenya or similar contexts.
  • Proven leadership and people management abilities, including team supervision, coaching, and performance oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing, proposal development, and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to analyze data, manage budgets, and use project management tools to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Familiarity with sustainable development, youth empowerment, and community-based approaches; experience with NGOs is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field; a master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Capacity to work on-site in Mandera, travel within Northern Kenya as needed, and adapt to remote, resource-constrained environments.
