Horn of Africa Organization for Indigenous People is a local youth-led non-governmental organization working with pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya. The organization focuses on advancing the rights, welfare, and sustainable livelihoods of indigenous people in the Horn of Africa region. It partners with community leaders, grassroots groups, and other stakeholders to promote inclusive development and access to essential services. The team values community-driven solutions, youth leadership, and culturally sensitive approaches to programming. Staff and volunteers contribute directly to improving socio-economic conditions and resilience among marginalized pastoralist communities.

Role Description

The Finance Officer is a volunteer, on-site position based in Moyale, supporting the organization’s financial planning and management. Day-to-day tasks include preparing, reviewing, and maintaining financial records, assisting in the development of budgets, and ensuring accurate financial reporting for projects and programs. The role involves monitoring expenditures, reconciling accounts, and supporting the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal use and donors. The Finance Officer will collaborate with program and administrative staff to ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements. This position requires regular presence at the office and engagement with local teams to strengthen financial systems and transparency.

Qualifications

 

  • Candidates should possess strong Finance knowledge and experience with Financial Reporting to support accurate and compliant documentation.
  • Candidates should possess the ability to prepare and review Financial Statements as part of regular accounting and project reporting.
  • Candidates should possess solid Analytical Skills to interpret financial data, monitor budgets, and identify variances or risks.
  • Candidates should possess clear and effective Communication skills to collaborate with staff, explain financial information, and engage with partners.
  • Relevant experience in non-profit or community-based organizations, particularly in rural or pastoralist settings, is beneficial.
  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is preferred, along with basic proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to transparency and accountability in financial management
