COLEAD is looking for a Project Officer to strengthen its Research and Innovation Brokerage Department and support the implementation of research and innovation activities, mainly in East and Southern Africa.
The role will contribute to projects supporting sustainable horticultural production, crop protection, applied research and innovation, working closely with public and private-sector partners across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of research activities and field trials covering crop protection, crop production, food loss and waste, and smart agricultural technologies.
- Contribute to research design, trial protocols, data collection, analysis, technical reporting and knowledge management.
- Coordinate with research institutions, technical partners, service providers, input suppliers and relevant authorities, particularly in East and Southern Africa.
- Support the technical, administrative, financial and logistical monitoring of research activities, including contracts, budgets, deliverables and compliance with COLEAD and donor procedures.
- Contribute to regulatory monitoring, the updating of research databases and technical resources, and the development and dissemination of technical advisory materials.
- Support research-related capacity-building activities and the sharing of innovative and sustainable agricultural practices.
Profile
- Higher education qualification in agronomy, agricultural or horticultural science, environmental science, botany or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant professional experience in agriculture or horticulture, including project implementation support in East and/or Southern Africa.
- Practical experience in crop protection, applied research and agricultural field trials, including data collection, analysis and technical reporting.
- Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise activities, work independently and collaborate effectively with multicultural teams.
- Proactive, adaptable and solution-oriented, with a commitment to COLEAD’s mission and values.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Additional assets: Experience in plant protection product efficacy trials, sustainable agriculture, food loss and waste reduction, digital agricultural technologies, relevant international regulations, knowledge of French, Portuguese and/or regional languages.
Conditions
This is a full-time role based in Nairobi, Kenya, for a fixed term of one year, with the possibility of renewal.
The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
