ABOUT BROOKHILL
Brookhill Projects Limited is a design-and-build contractor based in Nairobi and registered with the National Construction Authority. Since 2020 we have delivered more than one hundred residential, commercial and fit-out projects, and more than a third of our work is repeat commission from clients we have built for before.
THE ROLE
We are appointing a Safety Officer to one building contract. You will be on site at all times, and you will prepare the monthly HSE report to the Engineer.
Your appointment will be notified to the DOSHS Inspector by name, so you must be registered, or immediately registrable, as a safety adviser with DOSHS. We check this at shortlisting, not at offer.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Deliver site inductions and daily toolbox talks.
• Prepare risk assessments and job safety analyses for high-risk work: excavations, scaffolding, lifting, working at height and hot works.
• Inspect the site daily and enforce PPE, edge protection, safe access and housekeeping.
• Stop unsafe work, whoever ordered it.
• Keep the safety registers, inspection records, and incident and near-miss reports.
• Prepare the monthly HSE report to the Engineer, and keep the site ready for a DOSHS or NEMA inspection at any time.
• Read ahead in the programme so that controls are in place before each high-risk phase begins.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You hold a professional line. When an experienced fundi wants to work on a slab edge without a harness “just for a minute”, the answer is no, and it stays no. When there is pressure to lift in high wind or pour without safe access, you stop the work and explain why. You keep the respect of the crew because you explain the risk as well as enforce the rule, and you are not pushed off a decision by seniority or by numbers.
REQUIREMENTS
• A degree or Higher National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Building Technology or a related field.
• At least three years as a safety officer on live construction sites.
• Registered, or immediately registrable, with DOSHS as a safety adviser.
• Experience of carrying out site audits and writing monthly HSE reports without supervision.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2007, NEMA regulations and NCA requirements.
• A NEBOSH International General Certificate is a strong advantage.
• Experience on Tatu City projects, or developments with a similar client-run safety regime, is a strong advantage.
HOW WE HIRE
DOSHS status is verified at shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates then complete a written assessment, followed by a panel interview.
