In Kenya, ARISE IIP Kenya is developing a coordinated portfolio of industrial platforms that includes Vipingo Special Economic Zone (VSEZ), Coast Integrated Industrial Platform (CIIP), Great Rift Industrial Park (GRIP) and Vistari (Rivatex). Together, these platforms are designed to support manufacturing, logistics, value addition, exports, digital infrastructure and future-facing industries across strategic locations in the country.
Project Overview
Great Rift Industrial Park (GRIP) is one of the priority projects under the Government of Kenya and Afreximbank Country Programme, implemented by ARISE IIP. Sitting on 1,800 acres in Naivasha, next to the Inland Container Depot, GRIP is being developed to support industrial growth anchored on Naivasha’s strong connectivity, access to geothermal energy, inland logistics infrastructure, and proximity to key agricultural and regional markets.
GRIP is designed for heavy manufacturing, regulated production, and industries where energy reliability, environmental discipline, and compliance credibility are decisive.
Role Description
ARISE IIP Kenya is seeking a qualified and experienced Civil Engineer to support the development and delivery of civil infrastructure works within the Great Rift Industrial Park (GRIP) in Naivasha.
The successful candidate will provide technical oversight of civil works, supervise contractors and consultants, review engineering documentation, monitor construction progress, support quality control, and ensure infrastructure works are delivered in line with approved designs, standards, timelines and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight and supervision of civil engineering and infrastructure works within the project.
- Review civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications, BOQs, method statements and technical submissions.
- Ensure civil works are executed in accordance with approved designs, contractual requirements and applicable standards.
- Supervise contractors, subcontractors, consultants and technical service providers undertaking civil works.
- Monitor construction progress against approved project programmes and identify potential delays and technical risks.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify quality, workmanship, materials and compliance with approved designs.
- Coordinate civil works with electrical, mechanical, water, wastewater, ICT, security and other infrastructure systems.
- Oversee construction and maintenance of internal roads, access roads, drainage, stormwater systems, earthworks, pavements, culverts and other civil infrastructure.
- Ensure appropriate testing and inspection of construction materials and completed works.
- Identify defects, non-conformities, and construction risks and ensure timely corrective action.
- Review contractors’ work progress, quantities, measurements and supporting documentation for payment certification.
- Participate in preparation and review of project budgets, cost estimates, variations, and technical evaluations.
- Support tendering and procurement processes through preparation and review of technical specifications, BOQs, scopes of work and technical evaluations.
- Coordinate with relevant authorities, utility providers, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders on infrastructure-related matters.
- Support obtaining and maintaining relevant statutory approvals, permits, inspections, and clearances.
- Ensure that civil infrastructure works comply with applicable Kenyan laws, engineering standards, environmental requirements, and SEZ/EPZ requirements.
- Assess investor or tenant development proposals to ensure alignment with the SEZ master plan, development guidelines, infrastructure capacity and technical standards.
- Review investor/tenant civil drawings and infrastructure connection requirements as required.
- Maintain accurate records of drawings, submissions, site instructions, inspection reports, test results, as-built drawings and other engineering documentation.
- Prepare regular technical, progress, quality and infrastructure status reports.
- Support the preparation of snagging lists, practical completion inspections, handover documentation, and defects liability monitoring.
- Monitor infrastructure during the operational phase and recommend preventive and corrective maintenance interventions.
- Support investigations of infrastructure failures, defects, drainage issues, road deterioration, and other civil engineering challenges.
- Coordinate with the HSE team to ensure safe execution of civil works and compliance with site safety requirements.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the Construction Manager or Project Director.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
- Registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya or eligible for registration.
- Membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in civil engineering, infrastructure development, construction, industrial parks, SEZs, EPZs, real estate development or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience supervising civil works and managing contractors and consultants.
- Experience in roads, drainage, earthworks, infrastructure networks and site development.
- Experience in industrial, commercial, infrastructure or mixed-use developments is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Kenyan construction standards, regulations, environmental requirements and statutory approvals.
- Experience with project documentation including BOQs, drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection requests and technical reports.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Project or Primavera, Microsoft Excel and other relevant engineering or project management software.
