United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) is the national umbrella organization that brings together diverse organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) in Kenya.
Established in 1989, UDPK has consistently worked to amplify the collective voice of persons with disabilities and promote their full, effective, and meaningful participation in all aspects of life. UDPK seeks to dismantle systemic barriers, influence inclusive policies, and promote an inclusive society where all persons with disabilities enjoy their human rights, realize their full potential, and are actively involved in decision-making processes.
UDPK wishes to recruit a qualified person for the following position.
Job Title: Program Officer
Location: Nairobi with regular travel to project sites
Full Time: 40 hours per week
Reporting To: Head of Programs

Background and Purpose:
UDPK is implementing several national and county-level interventions focusing on disability rights, policy influence, advocacy, economic empowerment, governance, inclusive development, social accountability, humanitarian action, gender equality, and organizational strengthening.
To effectively deliver these programs, UDPK seeks to recruit a qualified, dynamic, and results-oriented Program Officer to support program planning, implementation, monitoring, multi-stakeholder engagement, documentation, and reporting.
The Program Officer will provide technical and operational support in the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, documentation, and reporting of UDPK programs. The position will ensure quality implementation, timely delivery of project activities, effective stakeholder engagement, and compliance with donor and
organizational requirements.Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Officer shall be responsible for:
1. Program Planning and Implementation
• Support the implementation of project activities in accordance with approved work plans and budgets.
• Coordinate project activities with member Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), other OPDs, government agencies, development partners, and county stakeholders.
• Develop activity concept notes, implementation plans, and logistical arrangements.
• Be proactive in identifying and communicating challenges and possible solutions during the program activity cycle.
• Liaise and work with the UDPK Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) lead and other internal expertise as required.
• Participate in program reflection sessions.
• Track the performance of program activities and ensure quality and timely preparation of program reports.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor that contribute to the achievement of UDPK’s mission and strategic objectives.
2. Working with program stakeholders
• Represent UDPK in relevant meetings and learning sessions as delegated.
• Manage relationships with key program stakeholders including OPDs, duty bearers, development, civil society organizations, amongst others.
• Be proactive in identifying and communicating challenges and possible solutions during the program activity cycle.
3. Financial and Administrative Support – working closely with the Senior Finance Officer
• Prepare activity budgets and procurement requests.
• Monitor activity expenditures against approved budgets.
• Ensure compliance with organizational financial and procurement procedures.
• Prepare payment documentation and accountability reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL)
• Support collection of program data and performance information.
• Prepare activity reports, success stories, case studies, and lessons learned.
• Maintain project databases and tracking tools.
• Monitor project indicators and contribute to periodic reviews.
• Support learning and adaptive management initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualification, Experience and Skills
✓ Bachelor’s degree in development studies, Project Management, Social Sciences,
Public Administration, Political Science, International Relations, Community
Development, Disability Studies, or a related field.
✓ At least 2-3 years of proven work experience as a Project Officer or a similar role
managing a dynamic program with diverse stakeholders.
✓ Proven experience in Program cycle management including Design,
implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
✓ Demonstrable experience working with diverse communities, stakeholders and
community-based organisations using participatory methodologies.

✓ Highly developed interpersonal, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:
• Familiarity with national legislation and policies in the field of disability, human rights, labour rights and employment.
• Experience of advocacy work for disability inclusion.
• Knowledge of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
