Role Purpose
This role is the day-to-day face of Wavu’s aggregation shop — the person who receives fish stock, serves customers, and keeps the shop running smoothly and accurately. It’s a front-line role: reliability, honesty, and good customer service matter more here than formal qualifications, though a background in food handling, sales, or digital marketing is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and log incoming fish stock deliveries at the shop, ensuring quality and accurate record-keeping in Wavu’s Purchases Log
- Handle day-to-day retail sales of fish and related products to walk-in customers
- Maintain proper food handling, hygiene, and storage standards at the shop at all times
- Handle cash and M-Pesa payments accurately, reconciling daily sales against Wavu’s Sales Log
- Build relationships with regular customers and carry out local outreach — including, as the role grows, proactively engaging fish traders and buyers to convert them into regular Wavu customers
- Promote Wavu and the shop’s products through simple digital channels (e.g. WhatsApp Status, Facebook, Instagram) to help drive local visibility and footfall
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and presentable at all times
- Monitor stock levels and flag re-supply needs
- Report daily or weekly sales summaries, and flag any issues (spoilage, complaints, stockouts) promptly
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Minimum KCSE certificate
- Basic numeracy and ability to handle cash and M-Pesa transactions accurately
- Honest, reliable, and punctual
- Good interpersonal skills and a customer-service mindset
- Basic sales ability — comfortable approaching new or unfamiliar customers, making a simple pitch, and following up to close a sale, as the role is expected to grow into direct outreach to fish traders and buyers
- Basic digital marketing skills — comfortable using WhatsApp Status, Facebook, or Instagram to promote products and help drive local sales
An advantage, not required:
- Certificate in Food Quality & Handling, Hospitality, or a related field
- Prior experience in retail, customer service, or a shop/market environment
- Prior experience with social media or digital promotion

- Customer footfall and repeat-customer rate
- Shop hygiene and food-safety standards (spot-checked)
- Stock spoilage or wastage kept below an agreed threshold
