We have an exciting opportunity available, that of an Elephant Program Assistant.

Overall Purpose

Responsible for high-quality care of infant elephants, maintenance of animal facilities, adherence to health & safety standards, accurate reporting, and ensuring excellent guest experiences.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Support the day-to-day operations of the Elephant Rescue Centre.
  2. Implement best practices in elephant feeding, nutrition, enrichment, and husbandry.
  3. Conduct daily monitoring and reporting on elephant health and welfare.
  4. Report and follow up on sick or injured elephants.
  5. Maintain accurate health, behaviour, and rehabilitation records.
  6. Assist veterinary and wildlife teams during treatments and medical procedures.
  7. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of enclosures, nursery areas, guest areas, and staff facilities.
  8. Support implementation of animal welfare principles and SOPs.
  9. Participate in training interns, volunteers, and supporting research activities.
  10. Guide guests, verify tickets, and support fundraising initiatives through storytelling and guest engagement.
  11. Support implementation of health, safety, and emergency response procedures.

Key Qualifications and

  • Diploma in Wildlife Conservation/Management.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Management, Conservation, or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in wildlife conservation, monitoring, or ecological research
  • Knowledge of wildlife ecology and conservation policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Passion for wildlife conservation and animal welfare.

Location: The role will be based at Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy.(MKWC)
