Position:
Position Field Social Worker (4 Roles – County-Based) Locations: Embu, Nakuru, Kajiado, and Uasin Gishu Counties, Kenya Lumos is seeking four experienced and committed Field Social Workers to support the delivery of a UNICEF-funded programme across key counties in Kenya.
As part of the Kenya Programme team, you will play a central role in implementing care reform activities, supporting the transition of children from institutional care to family-based care, and strengthening child protection systems at county and community level.
Key responsibilities include:
Care Reform Delivery
- Work closely with county and sub-county children’s officers to implement programme activities
- Provide technical support, mentorship, and contribute to workforce development
- Conduct quality assurance checks and identify areas for improvement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders and partners
Case Management & Child Protection
- Conduct child and family assessments and deliver case management in line with safeguarding standards
- Support safe transition and reintegration of children into family-based care
- Participate in case conferences and recommend appropriate interventions
- Monitor case plans and follow up with families and service providers
Community Engagement & Behaviour Change
- Engage with communities, local authorities, and stakeholders to promote family-based care
- Support behaviour change initiatives and family strengthening programmes
- Participate in community forums and awareness-raising activities
Monitoring, Reporting & Learning
- Collect, manage, and analyse programme data
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning processes
This role requires strong technical social work expertise, stakeholder engagement skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and child-centred approaches.
Requirements:
Requirements Essential:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Work & Community Development, Sociology, or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in social work and child protection programmes
- Strong experience in case management, particularly supporting vulnerable children and families
- Knowledge of Kenyan child protection systems, including the Children Act (2022) and National Care Reform Strategy
- Experience working with government authorities, NGOs, and community stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills
- Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and ethical practice
Desirable:
- Experience in care reform and deinstitutionalisation programmes
- Experience supporting behaviour change and community engagement initiatives
- Experience contributing to monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes
- Experience strengthening capacity of government or community partners
