The Shippers Council of Eastern Africa (SCEA) is a leading Business Membership Association representing the interests of cargo owners across East Africa. Registered in Kenya, SCEA works through strategic partnerships with regional and international organizations to champion efficiency, competitiveness, and investment in logistics services and infrastructure. Our advocacy spans all modes of freight transportation and trade facilitation, with the goal of transforming East Africa into a region of high logistics efficiency and competitive pricing.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Membership Development Officer to lead initiatives that grow and strengthen SCEA’s membership base. This role is central to enhancing advocacy impact and ensuring members receive tangible value. The officer will drive revenue growth through recruitment, and manage member communications with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

· Identifying & recruiting prospective companies as members of the Association. This mainly involves identifying companies that are not part of the association and onboarding them through selling / communicating the benefits of being a member of SCEA. This activity is tied to revenue generation.

· Organizing and coordinating membership recruitment forums and drives. Drive marketing campaigns on SCEA services which can be inform of a forum / direct company visit.

· Development & updating the database of current and prospective members. Generating prospective membership leads / recruitment pipeline for the Association with up-to-date contacts / contact persons.

· Liaise and ensure follow up with the potential members. Regular communication with prospective members for them to remain engaged & also for them to stay up to date on statuses of registration with SCEA.

· Ensuring new members are inducted into the Association’s activities. This function directly contributes to member retention because new members get to better understand.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to develop & design a membership recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Strong strategic planning and marketing skills.
  • Strong communication skills – ability to plan & execute marketing recruitment campaigns.
  • Strong relationship management skills – to foster and maintain business relationships with various industry stakeholders, through continuous and effective member engagements.
  • Market research skills
  • Digital marketing skills
  • Knowledge in event management – to aid in planning member events / activities

Job Qualification & certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, Communications, and any other related discipline.

• At least 2 years of experience, preferably in a BMO setup.
