The position

The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK) is an Institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa. The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation and is at advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation. AKHK has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa – Bay, Migori, Bomet, Eldoret, Kimilili, Nyamira and Kabarnet. The Hospital seeks to recruit a professional for the following position:

MANAGER – BUDGETS AND PLANNING

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will be accountable for management reporting, budgeting and overall process improvement for finance. Management reporting responsibilities involve the analysis and documentation of all the organization’s finance data within the generally accepted accounting practices, for the purposes of internal and external reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily volumes and weekly analysis for the regional leadership meetings.
  • Prepare monthly hospital performance report for head office and get reviewed from HOF.
  • Prepare provision analysis for bad debts for monthly reporting liaison with debtors ageing analysis.
  • By developing and updating financial models and presentation for regional leadership and head office for budget submissions.
  • Budget breakup of volumes and expenses and discussions with HOD/HOF and CEO.
  • Prepare feasibilities, costing of new packages and cost benefits analysis for annual budget process.
  • Prepare and analyze doctors’ compensation for resident doctors and highlight the impact of lower performing doctors to HOF and CEO.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly BVR for different heads of departments.
  • Monthly review the activities of grants and advice HOF on the key recommendations.
  • Adhere to finance statutory requirement:
  • Capture and maintain payroll information correctly
  • Singing of cheques and bank confirmations as second signatory of finance including liquidation of funds documentation process.
  • To review the expenses and activities in the cluster.
  • Actively participate in annual audit related activities related to payroll and reporting and other based on requirement.
  • Participate with HOF for the implementation of E.H.R projects on different assignments.
  • Review and analyze existing policies and advice to HOF for update and improvements if required.
  • Prepare the annual price increase analysis with the help of ICT to advise the periodic year propose price increase.

The requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or related discipline; MBA or master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in Finance.
  • Minimum 3 years in management role.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA or ACCA)
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of applicable law and regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable accounting reporting software including accounts receivable software, electronic mail software, ERP software, financial analysis software and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
