Position overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HR Associate Intern to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career HR professional to learn by doing. As our HR Associate Intern, you’ll work closely with the our team and be exposed to the full employee experience — from recruitment and onboarding to engagement and compliance. You’ll support the creation of systems, solve day-to-day people-related challenges, and help us build a smooth, people-first HR function. Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Assist with screening CVs and conducting initial candidate screenings
  • Coordinate interview logistics and scheduling
  • Execute pre-onboarding tasks and support new hire documentation

Benefits Administration

  • Support onboarding of employees to benefits like insurance and pension plans
  • Respond to basic questions on benefit eligibility, deadlines, and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with benefit-related changes or requests

Learning & Development

  • Assist in identifying skill gaps and research training resources
  • Support the coordination of internal and external training programs

Employee Engagement

  • Help organize engagement activities and team events
  • Assist in managing employee surveys and compiling reports
  • Maintain clear communication channels for internal updates and initiatives

Employee Data Management

  • Update and maintain HRIS records and employee files
  • Support implementation of procedures for data organization and security

Internal Relations & Employee Requests

  • Process basic HR requests (e.g., leave applications, document requests)
  • Provide first-level responses to employee inquiries about HR policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in an HR or a people related role.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and practices (e.g., recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration)
  • Understanding of employment law fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (a plus)
  • IHRM membership and CHRP completion are added advantages.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Sharp attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Highly proactive and solutions-focused, with strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
  • Integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive data

Assessment

The role of HR professionals in Kenya often involves navigating complex ethical situations. Effectively managing these requires a strong ethical compass from HR leaders, coupled with unyielding compliance with Kenyan labour laws.

Task

  • Identify and analyse common ethical dilemmas encountered by HR professionals in Kenya.
  • Discuss the role of ethical leadership in shaping HR practices and organizational culture.
  • Propose a practical framework for HR professionals to ensure compliance with Kenyan labour laws.
  • Reflect briefly on how emerging issues may add complexity to ethical decision-making in the HR space in Kenya.
