As we expand their operations in Nairobi, Kenya, we are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer. This role is essential to safeguard the well-being of our workforce, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote sustainable practices throughout the project lifecycle.
Position Overview:
As the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel on-site while maintaining compliance with local and global health and safety standards. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential hazards, conducting regular inspections, and implementing necessary interventions to promote a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the On-Site Environmental, Health & Safety Officer, acting as a point of contact for all EHS-related matters.
- Conduct daily, full-time monitoring and review of site activities, focusing on Contractors and Vendors involved in CSA and MEP projects.
- Ensure strict compliance with the client’s Health and Safety Standards by all Contractors and Vendors operating on-site.
- Implement appropriate interventions as needed to support Contractors and Vendors in adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
- Manage the reporting process for any accidents or incidents that occur on-site, promptly notifying all relevant stakeholders and providing detailed incident reports.
- Ensure that all work activities are conducted in accordance with relevant Kenya Government legislation and global standards for environmental, health, and safety practices.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate personnel on site-specific safety procedures and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety inspections, incident reports, and compliance activities.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, regulations, and technologies in the field of environmental, health, and safety management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
- Professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety
- Proven experience working as an EHS Officer or similar role in a construction or industrial setting.
- In-depth knowledge of local and international health and safety regulations and standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with personnel at all levels.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential safety issues.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office suite and EHS management software.
