Koinonia Community is seeking to fill the position of a speech therapist for children as detailed below;

Reporting line: Project team leader.

Nature of Work: Part Time

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat speech and language disorders in children at Paolos home
  • Use the provided protocols and tests at the centre for assessment of children with speech disorders
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for each child based on their specific needs to improve both verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Adapt treatment plans according to the child’s progress, changes, or needs
  • Design and utilize appropriate therapy materials to stimulate language development
  • Monitor and document the child’s progress and response to therapy periodically
  • Guide caregivers on how to facilitate a supportive environment at home by sharing treatment goals and useful activities with them to implement
  • Provide additional support to Paolo’s home Special Needs teachers in facilitation of cognitive assessment and treatment of daycare children and formulation of IRPs (individual rehabilitation plans) based on needs identified.
  • Collaborate with the teachers, speech therapists, occupational and physio therapists and other professionals at Paolo’s home involved in the child’s care to enhance holistic intervention and development of the child.
  • Provide training and education to caregivers and other professionals on speech disorders and other available therapies/cognitive therapy
  • Provide speech therapy periodic reports
  • Attend staff team meetings for case presentations, to share information to enhance team cohesion and strengthen relationships
  • Refer children to additional medical or educational services, if need be, in consultation with other professional in Paolos home.
  • Performs Any other duties assigned from time to Time

 

  • Minimum Requirements and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or related field.
  • Valid license or certification in speech-language pathology from the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Kenya (ASLTK) will be an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with working with diverse populations.

 

  • Skills in counseling and special needs education will be an added advantage
  • Computer literacy a must: working knowledge of MS office required;
  • Good knowledge of human rights and especially the rights of children with disabilities
  • Experience in capacity building which includes facilitation of community-based training and awareness
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • No less than 2 years previous work experience,
