About Medbook
Medbook is a Kenyan health-technology company building the digital backbone of healthcare delivery across East Africa. Our platforms, including AphiaOne, Mediclaim, Mediwrite and the AphiaApp, serve providers, insurers and patients across the region. We are building out our analytics capability and beginning to explore Al-assisted tooling, and we are looking for a developer ready to take real ownership and help move our platform to the next level.
Job brief
This is a mid-level, full-stack role: you’ll work across our Laravel (PHP) back-end, Angular/TypeScript front-end, and Flutter mobile app, owning features end to end with limited supervision. Code quality matters here, especially given the sensitivity of the health data we handle.
What you’ll do
- Develop and maintain features across Laravel, Angular/TypeScript, and Flutter; build and document
REST APIs across AphiaOne, Mediclaim, Mediwrite, and the AphiaApp - Work with payment and messaging integrations (M-Pesa/Daraja, SMS gateways) and third-party services
- Apply secure-coding and data-protection practices in line with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019
- Contribute to CI/CD deployments, code review, and our growing analytics and Al-assisted tooling work
- Collaborate with product, operations, and support to ship reliably and resolve issues
What you’ll need
- Hands-on full-stack experience, ideally Laravel/PHP plus TypeScript/Angular (React/Vue considered); able to own features end to end
- Experience with a mobile framework (Flutter preferred; React Native or native Android/iOS considered)
- Solid grasp of SQL databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), Git, and REST APIs
- A genuine appetite to learn: exposure to AI/ML integration (LLM APIs, Al-assisted tooling), cloud, or BI tooling all count in your favour
- BSc/Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; nice to have: exposure to health-tech, AI/ML tooling, PowerBI, or a scaling, product-driven environment
What we offer
A high-ownership role with room to grow as the platform scales, mission-driven work at the heart of Kenyan and regional healthcare, and direct access to technical and executive leadership.
