JOB SUMMARY:

The Restaurant Waiter/Waitress is responsible for providing courteous, attentive, and efficient food and beverage service to guests in line with Hemingways Watamu’s luxury hospitality standards. The successful candidate will contribute to creating memorable dining experiences through exceptional service delivery, menu knowledge, teamwork, and attention to detail.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and maintain restaurant tables, service stations, cutlery, glassware, and dining areas before, during. and after service.
  • Welcome guests warmly and provide personalized, professional, and attentive service.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders and ensure timely delivery of guest requests.
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of menus, ingredients, beverages, specials, and allergen information.
  • Respond promptly to guest inquiries and concerns, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Promote menu items, beverages, and specials through effective upselling techniques.
  • Process guest bills accurately and handle payments in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, food hygiene, and presentation at all times.
  • Work closely with kitchen, bar, stewarding, and service teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Participate in training programs and contribute positively to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food & Beverage Service, Hospitality, Tourism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Waiter/Waitress in a 5-star restaurant or hotel environment.
  • Previous experience in a luxury hotel, resort, or busy restaurant operation will be an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of food and beverage service principles and guest service standards.
  • Basic knowledge of POS systems, billing procedures, and cash handling.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Professional grooming and presentation.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient during busy service periods.
